Is Printmakers Against Racism (PAR) collecting funds for this? How can I know you will be responsible in handling funds?
Great question! P.A.R. is not collecting any funds. Each participant who signs up will be managing their own art-making, activities, sale event, and donations. Participants let us know afterwards how much they raised and who they supported. (Participants will be sent a Donation Tracking Form after their event to help us estimate the collective impact of our efforts).

Who should I donate to?
We strongly urge you to research local mutual aid groups and organizations in your own community working for racial justice and LGBTQ+ rights.

When is the event taking place?
The event will take place in December 5 - 11, 2022 (feel free to modify these dates to best suit your needs.) We encourage participants to prioritize the health and safety of everyone involved in your event by planning for contactless, socially distant pickups/drop-offs/deliveries.

What if I can’t plan my sale for the planned timeframe of the event?
We would like to have all participants concentrate their efforts during the December timeframe, but we understand that might not work for all of you. If you have to begin your art sale early or extend it by a few days, that’s totally fine! Same goes with any related activities you have planned.

What if I want to participate but don’t want to be near other humans?
We get it. Maybe you are prioritizing your health because of coronavirus concerns. Maybe you are a super introvert. Whatever the reason may be, if you want to limit your contact with others, consider having a fully virtual sale with items being shipped rather than picked up or delivered.

What kinds of items should I make or sell?
Use this event to inspire you to create something new (like a new edition of prints), or sell prints you’ve previously made. Printmaking encompasses all kinds of techniques (such as linocut, screenprinting, etching, letterpress, and woodcuts, just to name a few!). There are so many ways to make art using printmaking techniques - the sky is the limit!

Do the prints I create and sell have to be related to anti-racism or social justice?
Printmaking has a long history as a tool in raising awareness about social issues and inspiring others to action. For this event, if you feel inspired to create make something related to the cause, please do so! If you want to make something completely unrelated, that’s ok too! The main goal is to raise money, raise awareness, and get people engaged.

What about zines and stickers?
Yassssss! Side note, some artists last year who sold stickers raised a LOT of money! Go for it.

I want to participate but have never done printmaking before, so what should I do?

Or, make art in your preferred medium and just participate!

What if I don’t have access to my local print studio now due to COVID-19?
Many of us have been displaced from our art-making spaces and no longer have access to the gear, supplies, and community there. Consider this as a creative prompt to try printmaking at home using what you have! There are many great ideas on the interwebs.

Instead of selling many items, can I just auction off a few big ticket items instead?
Absolutely! Some printmakers may not have the capability to produce many prints or items to sell, or may not have enough of an audience to purchase them, so it is fine to be raise donations for this effort as you see fit (by auctioning items, lessons, workshops, etc.).

How else can I help?
There are many other ways to help. Tell others about this project and what you are doing. Buy and collect prints released as part of this initiative. Ask others for donations to your organization(s) of choice. Challenge your friends and family to learn more and do more. Connect with community groups organizations that are directing action in your city. Learn more about anti-racism. #DoTheWork
